Since its founding in 2005, UDC has conducted major GIS implementations for its utility clients. We’ve formalized the architectural portion of this work within our Enterprise Architecture Practice Area. We aim to address and prevent performance issues that can accompany large-scale transformations when the architecture is not designed, scaled, installed, or configured correctly. UDC helps build a solid foundation for our clients, empowering them to streamline their operations and daily tasks.
Our knowledge of Esri’s GIS solutions and platforms and our experience in related systems integration empower us to approach GIS projects with enterprise awareness. Supported by our other UDC service areas, we help you find the best-fit architecture solution that aligns with your businesses and fully harnesses your technology investments.
The UDC team has provided GIS system design engagements for many utilities, including PG&E, Grey Forest Utilities, and the City of Pasadena.

Next Generation GIS
As part of PG&E’s 15-year initiative to modernize its GIS system, UDC assisted the utility in determining whether to deploy its future system in the cloud or on-premises in the data center. UDC conducted cloud decision support workshops, provided cost analysis estimates, and built a high-level GIS architecture to aid PG&E in its decision-making process.
UDC is additionally assisting PG&E integration architects with implementing integration patterns, technologies, and tools for migrating and reconstructing existing integrations with the GIS.

Architecture Review and Consulting
Grey Forest Utilities (GFU) is implementing an enterprise GIS as part of its initiative to migrate to Esri’s ArcGIS Utility Network data model. To support this move, UDC collaborated with the utility to plan a future-state deployment pattern that aligns with GFU’s requirements for availability, sizing, and configuration. UDC additionally provided support services that included consulting, application enhancements, and training.
Utility Network Architecture Review
The City of Pasadena Water & Power (PWP) is undergoing a multi-year GIS modernization initiative, including migrating its water and electric data from the geometric network data model to Esri’s ArcGIS Utility Network data model. To support this transformation, UDC is assessing the utility’s current GIS architecture and data and delivering a migration roadmap that includes an ROI document.
