Avista Utilities Company Overview:

  • Headquartered in Spokane, WA
  • 340,000 Electric Customers
  • 300,000 Natural Gas Customers
  • 30,000 sq miles / 4 Northwestern States

Project Duration: 10/2020 – 12/2022

Objective: Electric, Gas Distribution & High Pressure Network Migration

Avista has begun a two-year project for the production implementation of ArcGIS Pro and Utility Network for both their Gas and Electric commodities. UDC will provide services for the phased migration of Avista’s gas distribution and transmission to the Utility Network and Utility and Pipeline Data Model, including the use of the APR toolset for high pressure. The next phase will migrate electric data sets, beginning with the company’s downtown secondary network, to the Utility Network model and ArcGIS Pro. Finally, electric transmission, distribution and substation data sets will be transferred.

UDC will use our HEIDE migration tool to provide data modeling, advance configuration, and validation and transfer of Avista’s data from ArcGIS and ArcFM to ArcGIS Pro. The tool will also be used to enable Avista to run networks in parallel with change detection functionality that is being refined for the project. This means that existing data within the Geometric Network and external data sources can be synched to the Utility Network allowing the utility flexibility to fully transition and retire their geometric network when ready.

Moving to the Esri Utility Network will enhance the utility’s capabilities for modern grid management and automation by preparing the way for advanced distribution management and distributed energy resource management to meet growing requirements.
