Project Highlights

Project Duration: 09/2022 – 02/2023

Objective: UN Readiness Assessment

UDC is excited to announce its continued collaboration with PG&E on a preliminary ArcGIS Utility Network (UN) data assessment. UDC will conduct a data readiness assessment of the utility’s gas transmission (GT) and gas distribution (GD) systems for the Humboldt Division, leveraging UDC’s internal migration tools to automate workflows during the assessment. The project kicked off at the beginning of September and will wrap up in February of 2023.

PG&E Goals

Through this undertaking, PG&E seeks to understand the effort required to move its GT and GD GIS to the UN model, focusing on the data challenges the utility may encounter. The Humboldt Division will serve as the pilot PG&E division for this initiative.

UDC’s Role

UDC’s HEIDE migration tool will be used during the UN data assessment to perform source data and UN data analyses and to assist in identifying data that does not adhere to the UN’s requirements, such as geometry variations. The output reports will help PG&E prepare its data for the UN by providing actionable data improvements and data readiness recommendations. UDC will additionally configure a sandbox ArcGIS Pro environment which will enable the utility to train its users in the new system using its own gas data.

UDC and PG&E will collaboratively develop a UN migration and implementation strategy based on the utility’s GT and GD goals and vision, mapping data and functions, current GIS integration touchpoints with other systems, and future state needs.
