Objective: Electric Transmission GIS Roadmap
UDC is excited to work with NorthWestern Energy on a roadmap that will outline the utility’s strategy for migrating and standardizing its enterprise GIS applications on Esri’s Network Management platform. The project got underway earlier this month and is set to finish in February of 2023.
NorthWestern Energy Goals
From this initiative, NorthWestern Energy will receive a roadmap for migrating its commodities to the platform and leveraging the ArcGIS Utility Network as well as a comprehensive plan for moving its electric transmission data from paper and the existing Energy Management System into GIS.
UDC’s Role
To build out the GIS roadmap, UDC will evaluate NorthWestern Energy’s existing source documentation and the current state of its electric transmission data. This process-centric approach will help identify the utility’s future needs for additional or enhanced functionality, applications, integrations, data, and workflows. From these findings, UDC and NorthWestern Energy will jointly map the utility’s future state with a five-year plan, leveraging UDC’s reference Enterprise GIS solution architectures within the plan to maximize Northwestern’s current and future technology investments.
