Project Highlights

Project Duration: April 2025 – December 2025

Objective: GIS Data Standardization

UDC is pleased to announce the successful completion of the GIS data standardization initiative at Middlesex Water Company (Middlesex Water). This project established accuracy standards and benchmarks for spatial data and attribution. Primary tasks included the following:

  • Provide recommendations for ongoing data quality improvement
  • Develop protocols for data maintenance and quality control
  • Document standards and metadata requirements for use by reviewing agencies
  • Establish best practices for data collection, storage, and updating

Project Goals

Middlesex Water partnered with UDC to establish spatial data standards and enhance the quality of its GIS data to support critical programs, such as asset management, utility management, capital programming, and project design, and to prepare the company for enterprise transformation initiatives.

UDC’s Role

UDC evaluated data quality, completeness, and network connectivity. A pilot area was chosen, and after applying accuracy and quality protocols, UDC recommended maintenance, scripts, and reports for data governance. A plan was developed to implement these standards across all GIS datasets at Middlesex Water’s six subsidiaries. UDC worked closely with the company’s water and wastewater teams throughout this initiative.

“I want to thank UDC for the excellent work in developing the Middlesex Water Company Data Accuracy Standards and applying the new standards against our datasets.”

Michael Hanna, Project Engineer, Middlesex Water Company
