UDC has invested in frameworks that act as project implementation accelerators for our gas clients. Digital Utility® is compatible through REST services in moving ahead with Utility Network and offers multiple value-added Enterprise grade applications for utilities. Meeting the specific needs of gas utilities utilizing the Universal Pipeline Data Model (UPDM)/APR, we also have been working on linear referencing pipeline productivity tools. We are honored to be recognized by Esri as one of their top ten ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing Software and Service Providers.
UDC has added automation to the existing Esri ArcGIS Pro/APR and Workflow Manager tools as well as developed an interactive QA/QC module to support the as-builting gas transmission workflow using Esri’s linear referencing functionality within its Pro/APR and Event Module tools. Much of this work was completed in conjunction with the extensive Transmission Integrity Management Program (TIMP) – Gas High Pressure Enhancement project for Sempra Energy at SoCalGas. Esri Services provided the core UPDM and APR implementation, and UDC was engaged to develop pipeline productivity tools and automated workflow solutions around the core implementation.
Specific UDC pipeline productivity tools enabling our client’s desired workflows include:
- Loader for Pipeline Feature List: Stand-alone set of tools for Esri APR and Pro to bulk load both pipeline to create a centerline and features to add events along the ALRS centerline.
- Interactive QA/QC Productivity Tools: Stand-alone code in Geodatabase and Client (Pro) leveraging Esri UPDM/APR to validate complete transmission pipeline within minutes rather than the 40+ hours that the standard approach would take.
- Pipeline Event Change Tracker: Working in conjunction with the QA/QC tools, these tools track changes to pipeline events to the level of fidelity gas companies need to support compliance with respect to changes in its engineering stationing.
All tasks have been aligned using Esri’s Workflow Manager and UDC’s customizations to support the automated workflow.
In addition to increasing efficiency for APR users and elevating the editor experience, UDC’s pipeline productivity tools support gas regulatory compliance and reporting requirements. They provide utilities the improved ability to meet and demonstrate compliance.
