UDC’s Gas Outage Management System (OMS) received special recognition at GeoConX 2019. During the annual conference, UDC was presented the Esri Partner Innovation Award for developing an Industry leading ArcGIS Enterprise based solution for automated management of gas outage. The Innovation Award is given to Esri partners who pioneer unique offerings integrating spatial functionality and leveraging Esri’s GIS mapping software. We are honored to be one of seven partners recognized with an award at this year’s event in Atlanta, GA.
Gas OMS Development
UDC began working with the Northeast Gas Association and its members in 2018 to architect a solution providing the necessary tools for automating the full gas outage and restoration process. In contrast to their electric utility counterparts, gas utilities had lacked a complete digital process and the necessary communication tools for addressing planned outages.
Having an OMS in place would ensure safety of the public both in tracking that impacted pipelines and services are shut off until repaired and in efficiently managing the restoration process to ensure that repaired infrastructure is checked prior to service restoration.
Centered on NGA member input, the GIS based ArcGIS Enterprise Gas OMS application allows for integration to CIS, Work Management, SCADA, Mobile Workforce Management and Synergi. UDC’s Gas OMS uses underlying asset system data and a mapping interface to visually plan and manage planned outages.
Gas operators can greatly reduce the impact of an outage using trace functionality and the ability to isolate the outage. Application tools enable the utility to dispatch field workers. Field workers then utilize configurable mobile forms for work completion and reporting at each stage of the outage. The built-in interactive and dynamically updating dashboard communicates outage progress to operations managers, key stakeholders and regulators.
