Project Highlights:

Objective: Enterprise GIS, Electric Data Maintenance, and Fiber Data Maintenance Enhancements

UDC is pleased to announce our continued partnership with Pasadena Water and Power and the City of Pasadena on the utility’s GIS Enhancements and Services Project. For the past twelve years, UDC has provided GIS services including application and systems integration, database management and performance, configuration management, system administration, and data conversion management for the organization. See UDC Implements Fiber Manager and Wavepoint at City of Pasadena for more information on the initiative.

The goals of the enhancement projects include 5-year road map development and modernizing PWP’S existing Esri ArcGIS and Schneider Electric ArcFM GIS environment. The project kicked-off in September and is set to continue through 2026.

Scope:

The GIS Enhancements and Services project encompasses two primary areas.

1. Electric and Fiber Data Maintenance

The Electric and Fiber Data Maintenance scope will update PWP’s electric distribution GIS and asset data in addition to updating and maintaining the fiber asset data in the GIS using ArcFM Fiber Manager. Delivering over one million MWh of energy each year through 1658 linear miles of overhead and underground power lines, the enhancement of PWP’s GIS and fiber asset data, applications, and integrations will aid the utility in improving its asset management and data integrity. In partnership with UDC, PWP aims to update its as-built work orders and leverage the current GIS and fiber data – extending the capabilities to support and integrate applications relating to smart grid and other initiatives.

2. GIS Enhancements

Under the GIS Enhancements scope, UDC is performing a roadmap and readiness assessment for a comprehensive five-year roadmap to deploy ArcGIS Pro and modern viewing applications and integrations. This scope also includes migrating PWP’s Esri based geometric network data model and applications to the Utility Network.
