Objective: Utility Network Data Assessment and Proof of Concept

UDC is excited to partner with Arizona Public Service (APS) on Phase One of its digital transformation and digital twin initiative. This phase focuses on preparing the organization for the transition to ArcGIS Utility Network and building a Network Information Management System. UDC is working closely with the utility’s GIS Services, IT, PMO, Design, and Spatial Management lines of business to assess APS’s electric data readiness for the new model and conduct a migration Proof of Concept (POC).

Project Goals

APS’s digital transformation goals include creating a digital twin of its electric grid, implementing advanced network management technologies, optimizing workflows, and establishing its GIS investment as a foundational enterprise system through configurations and GIS-centric integrations with downstream business systems.

With the move to Network Information Management, APS aims to improve areas around GIS data administration and maintenance, data fidelity, process efficiencies, and power restoration readiness.

UDC’s Role

Supported by expertise from its UN Transformation, Enterprise Architecture, and Digital Design and Construction service areas, UDC is assisting APS in preparing for migration by conducting a comprehensive source and Utility Network data model compatibility analysis using its HEIDE and auto-migration tools. The team will fully configure sample data sets and stand-up data editing tools and applications in a cloud environment with the POC to demonstrate how the utility’s existing workflows would realistically operate in the new model using the migrated data. UDC teams are working jointly to ensure that APS implements the solution that best meets its needs and those of its customers.
