Guiding You on Your Path to Utility Network

UDC meets you where you are and can take you where you want to be within ArcGIS Network Management. We believe your migration should be as unique as you.

Presentations

UDC is participating with our clients in two main agenda User Presentations, and we’ll be featuring several 15-minute informative utility solution presentations within our booth. See below for a list of topics and schedule presentation times.

Main Agenda Session Presentations

  • Preparing for a Gas UN Implementation with a Comprehensive Design Plan

    Utility Network in Gas Utilities

    Tuesday, July 12, 2022

    10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

    SDCC – Room 27 A

Preparing for a Gas UN Implementation with a Comprehensive Design Plan

Dominion Energy of Ohio has embarked on a multi-phased plan to move its Ohio and West Virginia Gas GIS systems from GE Smallworld into Esri’s Utility and Pipeline Data Model (UPDM) with the Gas Utility Network. In this two-part presentation, UDC and Dominion Energy will discuss how the utility first prepared by generating over 100 detailed use cases and a system study. Then in a Design project, they identified 3rd party software needs, custom design needs, integration use cases, and data remediation issues as well as completing a pilot migration. They will also provide insight on specific data items encountered along with workflow considerations that may be needed before implementing your own Utility Network.

    • Luke Klenotic – Dominion
    • Angela Reising – UDC
    • Kieran McMahon – UDC
  • Managing Gas Outages and Restoration Within the Utility Network

    Gas Utility Solutions

    Tuesday, July 12, 2022

    2:30 PM – 3:30 PM

    SDCC – Room 26 B

Avangrid is building capabilities within ArcGIS Network Management to support gas operations with outage and restoration management. Together with UDC, they have implemented an isolation trace application that enables the identification of customers and critical facilities that will be impacted by an outage event and placement of outage barriers to reduce the overall impact. The utility then can save traces and export them to SAP for reporting purposes.

    • Dong Le – Avangrid
    • Dax Wolfinger and Feichi Shih – UDC

  • Preparing for your Electric Network Migration

    Tuesday, July 12, 2022

    2:00 PM

    Booth 419

Utility Network migration requires understanding of the new model for electric, understanding of your utility’s unique starting point with regards to data, workflows and systems, and a defined set of goals for how your utility will use and work within the GIS going forward to receive the most return from your investment. Join us to learn about what you may encounter migrating from your current Geometric network to the Utility Network and what functionality would benefit your utility. In addition, we’ll discuss what source data you may need to support the model and what the migration lift could look like for your electric utility.

    • TJ Houle – Director Systems Integration, UDC
  • Migrating from Smallworld to the Utility Network: A Gas Perspective

    Wednesday, July 13, 2022

    10:30 AM

    Booth 419

GE Smallworld has a drastically different data model compared to Esri’s ArcGIS Utility Network and, as such, migrating from the former to the latter can involve a sizable effort on behalf of your utility. However, through using specially designed migration tools and following a well-established workflow, your utility’s overall migration workload can be significantly reduced, and final data fidelity increased. Learn what to expect and what your utility can do now to start preparing for a successful migration.

    • Kieran McMahon – GIS Analyst, UDC
  • Emergency Response and the Digital Twin

    Wednesday, July 13, 2022

    2:00 PM

    Booth 419

Cleco Corporation, headquartered in Louisiana, is an award-winning utility in the areas of emergency recovery and assistance. The utility has adopted digital twin technology, built on top of its Enterprise GIS and fed by information from its ADMS and reliability data sources, to provide real-time, historic outage, and reliability views of its operating network. Learn how Cleco’s solution has elevated its ability to evaluate operations before, during, and after the storm.

    • Frank Roberts – Project Manager, UDC
  • Water Migration Tips and Tricks

    Thursday, July 14, 2022

    9:30 AM

    Booth 419

Migrating water over can look different for utilities depending on how the model will be leveraged. Some organizations may choose to fully enable the Utility Network, while others may only migrate to ArcGIS Pro. Stop by to learn about what source data you may need to support the model and what the migration lift could look like for your utility. The presentation will include examples of UDC’s ToolKit Add-ins for ArcGIS Pro, which have helped clients make their data ready for the Utility Network.

    • Angela Reising – Systems Integration Consultant IV, UDC
  • Vegetation Management Technology 101

    Thursday, July 14, 2022

    1:00 PM

    Booth 419

What does an end-to-end vegetation management solution look like? Join Karen as she discusses how today’s technology can be leveraged to provide a wholistic solution for vegetation management. From planning to monitoring progress, facilitating mobile or virtual asset collection, reporting and priority notification – workflow automation is being achieved at all levels of vegetation program management.
