ADMS Consulting: Scope of Work

project management using gantt chart

There are several key areas during the ADMS preparation and deployment processes where UDC can provide expert consultative services, including ADMS Road Mapping, ADMS Readiness, and System Implementation Consulting. These can be standalone services or combined for an overall enterprise approach to your grid management strategy.

ADMS Roadmap

Our roadmap service helps you achieve your strategic ADMS technology objectives by identifying, prioritizing, and planning for the best integration of operation and information technologies (OT/IT) for your specific utility. Creating a blueprint of your deployment helps drive your ADMS scope and enables your organization to make informed decisions throughout the implementation at reduced risk.

Developing your tailored roadmap takes about 3-6 months and is contingent on the size of your utility and your ADMS goals.

Current State Analysis

Upon reviewing your current technology landscape and conducting interviews to understand your business drivers, we create your business strategy for ADMS adoption throughout your organization. We evaluate your current state business processes and workflows and modify them to develop future business workflows in the ADMS. We leverage our reference solution architectures to determine the value and priority of your business process and technology improvements as well as the extent of automation required to support your business integrations.

A gap analysis is conducted to determine any missing ADMS requirements in your applications, integrations, business systems, and data. From these results, we determine how the network design and solution architecture fits into your organization’s technology landscape.

Business Release Schedule

Your unique requirements are then built and divided into dependent business releases, including distinct schedules and budgets according to your specific goals and priorities. The deliverables from the previous tasks are consolidated to develop your Strategic ADMS Roadmap, which identifies quick wins, solutions, and potential long-term investments; details how legacy technologies can be leveraged; and features key milestones and metrics for implementations and integrations.

ADMS Readiness Assessment

An ADMS requires a higher level of detailed data and asset information to tap into the model’s advanced operational capabilities. As a result, identifying your data requirement gaps prior to full implementation is key to achieving modern grid management for the enterprise. We can help prime your ADMS implementation to ensure your organization is set up to leverage the model’s advanced functionalities at time of deployment.

Determining your organization’s ADMS readiness generally averages 6-9 months, depending on the state of your existing source data and your goals for functionality in the ADMS model.

Source Data Analysis

Using our in-house data accelerators and tools, UDC evaluates your system of record (SOR) to identify gaps in your data that require remediation to support the advanced capabilities of your future ADMS technology. The first tier of analysis determines what requirements are missing from your SOR and current data that must be addressed to populate and maintain a functioning power system network in the ADMS. The second tier analyzes the additional set of business activity flows for all activities that will either directly use the future ADMS functionality or indirectly leverage the data produced by the ADMS.

Lifting the results from the readiness assessment, we determine the effort for your individual ADMS implementation and develop post-analysis goals for preparing your data.

Data Remediation and Enhancement

UDC has extensive experience performing and managing major data projects. As a result of this in-depth understanding, we have the capability to not only assess the information required by the ADMS system and the status of your data but to also perform the essential data refinement and completeness tasks. Our accompanying Field Services experience can also be leveraged to assist in providing the detailed asset type inventory characteristics required by the ADMS through determining the actual inventory of your assets.

Following the data cleanup tasks, we establish quality control checks and change control processes to ensure your data’s completeness going forward in support of the new ADMS data governance required. We can also provide a subscription-based report to monitor ongoing data fidelity.

UDC can provide vendor agnostic consulting services throughout the entirety of the ADMS implementation process, including all phases of ADMS planning and preparation, data refinement, vendor selection, and implementation oversight.
