SoCalGas uses a web-based One Call ticket management system to manage gas locating ticket requests and fulfillment to prevent damage to company facilities. Users of the out of the box interface were able to get very high-level details on each ticket but were not able to make real world associations between datasets. The utility wanted the ability to visualize, search, and use analysis tools within a mapping interface that would provide the user an in-depth association between ticket location, overdue status, and vehicle location. This capability would help to prioritize tickets and optimize fulfillment for enhanced damage prevention.
UDC has actively assisted SoCalGas with the implementation and maintenance of GIS for gas distribution since 2011 and currently provides guidance, expertise, and assistance to the company’s Customer Services in building various custom web applications.
Injecting Esri Technology
UDC collaborated with SoCalGas to build its custom KorTerra Map Series used by over 1100 internal users from the company’s pipeline safety, gas operations, work plan resource management, and customer strategy centers. Custom components of the Map Series include a stream service consumed into the application via GeoEvent Server, a GIS Ticket Viewer with enhanced search widget to identify associated tickets and assigned field workers, and a Dashboard tab providing a high level, analytical overview of the data outside of the ticket viewer.
The primary application of the custom GIS Ticket Viewer is to evaluate USA ticket area intersecting with Company facilities, so tickets can be easily prioritized. Damage prevention strategies in particular uses the ticket view to find tickets that are nearby while they patrol the field engaging contractors at the jobsite.
Benefits of Customized Ticket Management
As a result of implementing Esri technology and custom developed application components in combination with the utility’s One Call ticket management system, SoCalGas has achieved its primary goals for enhanced ticket management:
Advanced Search
Users are able to search related tickets and vehicles using a custom search widget and correlate direct relationship to company assets within the map interface.
Real-time Vehicle Visualization
The real-time visualization vehicle feed via GeoEvent Server enables work plan resource management to reroute vehicles that are in a closer proximity to tickets than those that are not for increased efficiency.
Analytic Capabilities
The new dashboard allows users to identify trends in certain geographies and see repeat damagers of Sempra assets in their digs.
Damage Prevention Strategies uses the Ticket Viewer information via the Collector Application on Ipads. The custom KorTerra Map Series is invaluable to damage prevention for SoCalGas.
